Compare fill and fit with a worked 4000 × 3000 to 1280 × 720 example, then choose a format, check transparency and quality, and verify a batch download.

Supported files, defaults and processing limits
- Use a JPG, PNG or WebP source. The displayed 40MB limit is implemented as 41,943,040 bytes. Source width × height must also be no more than 40 million pixels. File size and pixel count are separate limits.
- Custom width and height must be whole numbers of at least 16px, with a product of no more than 20 million pixels. A 5000 × 4000 output fits this limit; 5000 × 5000 does not. The initial 1200 × 630 fields become an output only after you choose Add.
- The initial settings are Fill, centered focus, JPG, quality 88 and a white background. Four sizes are selected: YouTube thumbnail and Shorts, Instagram square feed and Stories. Deselect any sizes you do not need before downloading.
- PicFit processes one source image at a time. Fit mode, focus, format and quality apply to every selected output. The preview shows the first selected preset, so inspect the final files at other aspect ratios too.
- A small compressed file can require substantial memory. Forty million pixels expanded to 4-byte RGBA need about 160MB for one image buffer, before temporary images and ZIP data. Processing can fail within the stated limits if your device has too little available memory.
- If the browser stalls or generation fails, reduce the source resolution and export a few sizes per batch. For a read error, try a file saved again as JPG, PNG or WebP in another image application. Cancellation is checked between images, so the current image does not stop immediately. Cancelling during the final image can still allow the download to finish; a batch that is cancelled does not download a partial ZIP.
Fill versus fit: 4000 × 3000 to 1280 × 720
Fill covers the output area and crops source edges when the aspect ratios differ. Fit preserves the entire source and uses the selected background in the remaining area. Neither mode stretches only one dimension to distort the image.
To fill a 1280 × 720 output from a 4000 × 3000 photo, PicFit uses a 4000 × 2250 source crop and scales it by 0.32. Centered focus removes 375 source pixels from both the top and bottom. Move vertical focus upward to keep a face or caption near the top. Horizontal focus has no effect in this example because the crop already uses the full source width.
Fit scales the same photo by 0.24 to 960 × 720 and centers it, leaving 160px on each side. Those margins use your white, black or custom background. Fit centers the image; changing focus does not reposition it.
Start with Fit when the whole product or text near an edge matters. Start with Fill for a thumbnail without margins. Matching source and output ratios need neither cropping nor padding. Enlarging a small source does not restore missing detail.
Choose a format and verify the download
For photographs, start by inspecting JPG; for sharp text, graphics or transparency, inspect PNG. Choose WebP when the destination accepts it. The JPG and WebP quality value of 88 is an encoder setting, not a promise to retain 88% of quality or reduce size by 88%. Lower settings often make smaller files, but check text edges and color boundaries for artifacts. PNG has no quality slider and may produce a larger file for a photograph.
To keep transparent areas in a PNG or WebP source, also select Transparent as the background. Leaving the default white background fills those areas. JPG and the App Store or Google Play presets marked for opaque output do not produce transparency. They use the selected background color, falling back to white when Transparent was selected. Outputs are newly rendered canvas images; original metadata and identical color or quality preservation are not guaranteed.
First download one selected size, unzip it and check its actual dimensions, text legibility, crop, background and file size. Names include a sequence number, preset ID and output dimensions. Once the settings work, download the remaining sizes together. ZIP packages the outputs; it is not an additional image-compression step.
Downloading requires both a source image and at least one selected size. If generation finishes but no file is visible, check the browser download list and save location. Before submission, separately verify the destination's file formats, file-size limits, content policies and latest requirements. Correct dimensions do not guarantee store approval.
